Ambulance Is Struck Head-On; 3 Injured
An ambulance on its way to an emergency was hit head-on by a pickup truck in San Fernando Sunday night, causing the ambulance to burst into flames.
The driver of the truck was critically injured and the two paramedics in the ambulance, from Rescue Unit 91, were seriously injured, said Bob Collis, spokesman for the Los Angeles City Fire Department. The crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m. near the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Workman Street. The pickup had inexplicably crossed over the center divide into the ambulance’s path, Collis said.
The driver of the ambulance had to pull his partner from the burning wreckage, according to a witness at the scene.
The two paramedics were taken to UCLA Medical Center in West Los Angeles and UCLA-Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar. The driver of the truck was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, Collis said.
