Juan Gonzalez hit a tiebreaking, two-run double as the Cleveland Indians broke loose in the 10th inning to beat the Minnesota Twins, 8-2, Wednesday at Minneapolis.

The Indians took a one-game lead over the Twins in the American League Central.

Marty Cordova had three hits and two runs batted in in the last three innings for Cleveland against his former team.

The Twins have lost 17 of 23 games, and fell to 2-7 against the Indians.

With the bases loaded in the 10th, Gonzalez hit a double that bounced over the center-field fence. Jim Thome was intentionally walked, and Cordova laced a single to center to make it 6-2. Travis Fryman’s sacrifice fly added another run and Wil Cordero hit a run-scoring single.

Minnesota scored twice in the sixth when Jacque Jones and Jason Maxwell landed consecutive, run-scoring singles in front of center fielder Kenny Lofton to give the Twins a 2-1 lead. But the Indians tied it, 2-2, in the seventh after Cordova doubled and scored on Cordero’s single.

Boston’s lead in the wild-card race was cut to a half-game over Oakland.
