Rick Ankiel, plagued by wildness since last year’s National League playoffs, will stay with the St. Louis Cardinal rookie-league team in Johnson City, Tenn., through the end of the season.

After Ankiel’s final start this month, the team will decide if he will be added to the Cardinals’ expanded roster on Sept. 1, Cardinal General Manager Walt Jocketty said Wednesday.

Ankiel, 22, is 5-2 with a 0.95 earned-run average and 119 strikeouts in 66 innings for Johnson City.
