Seventh Looks Like Best Bet

Share

The spice today’s card could have used was spoiled by one Pick Six player Monday. If somebody hadn’t had a perfect ticket that afternoon, there would have been a carry-over of more than $100,000 awaiting players as Del Mar begins its sixth week. Without the lure of a carry-over, there isn’t much enticing about the card. There is no stakes race and the highlight of the day is probably the seventh, a turf affair for 3-year-old fillies. The most interesting prospect in the field is No Approval, a daughter of With Approval who broke her maiden at first asking for trainer Wally Dollase at nearly 35-1. The odds will shrink this afternoon.

Race of the day: The second, a sprint for claimers, is a race without much in the way of pace, so it could be a good spot for Ti Titanium, who has been on the sideline, to wire his field.

Who’s hot: Chaffee’s Prospect. The son of Fort Chaffee will go for his fourth victory in five starts in today’s second race. Claimed by Jeff Mullins after his last victory, Chaffee’s Prospect has won 10 of 25.

Who’s not: Duke Of Green. A son of Warning who arrived well regarded from Europe more than a year ago, he has lost his last eight for trainer Ron McAnally. He last won in a division of the 2000 Oceanside Stakes about 13 months ago. He tries to end the drought in today’s third.

Exotically speaking: We’ll play an early pick three using Green Eyed Lady and Lauraelise in the first, singling Ti Titanium in the second and using L’effaceur and High Demand.
