Officials See Victory Over Rash of Wildfires

Cooperative weather and the toil of hundreds of firefighters were paying off as wildfires that once roared through the West wound down, officials in Omak, Wash., said.
A batch of fires in Eastern Washington that had threatened hundreds of homes had all but surrendered to firefighters aided by rainy weather.
Fire officials in Oregon also claimed a complete victory, having contained the last major wildfires.
