From Times Staff Reports

Firefighters on Wednesday fully contained the 2,183-acre blaze that destroyed a high school teacher’s cabin and threatened dozens of other homes in Sloan Canyon, authorities said.

The fire that started about 12:45 p.m. Monday a mile west of the Golden State Freeway remained under investigation, said county Fire Inspector Ray Rodriguez. He said the cause of the blaze was suspicious but fire officials had not determined whether it was deliberately set.

An outbuilding was also destroyed, Rodriguez said.

At the fire’s peak, 850 firefighters from Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties and the U.S. Forest Service fought the flames that forced about 100 families to evacuate. Two inmate crew members were treated at a local hospital for heat exhaustion.
