New Home: I just bought a house in Eagle Rock, an English Tudor built in the ‘20s. What [nearby] Pasadena’s been great for is finding the old fixtures. I’ve taken a sudden interest in finding the classic fixtures. Right now I’m looking for an Italian chandelier. On Colorado Boulevard, there are a few places in and around Old Town. Since I’ve moved to Eagle Rock, I don’t even go into L.A. anymore.

Exploring the ‘Hood: There’s a place, Fatty’s, in Eagle Rock, that’s like an old garage that they’ve turned into this coffee shop. It’s very high-tech-looking. The food is amazing; the coffee is great. Swork [also in Eagle Rock] had been turning into a really hip place. I go there for triple white chocolate mocha, and then my roommate and I will walk around the Rose Bowl. There’re all these crazy walks you can go on, and hills. We have a dog, Oscar, and by the time you’re done, it’s a good hour and half.

Christmas Shopping Year ‘Round: I go to Los Feliz and shop at Uncle Jers. I usually stockpile gifts for Christmas all year round. It’s very unique because the stuff is local-artist stuff, or so it feels like. And, it’s stuff you can’t find anywhere--really cool clothes, beads for doorways, amazing candles--perfect if you want to get somebody a nice gift. I’d also go to some of the thrift stores to look for old funk and disco records to sample. That’s a gold mine.

The Rub: There’s a place, Burbank Spa. It’s not a really chi-chi spa. It’s stripped down to the basics, but anything you can imagine, they do. The guys--brothers, Jouni and John, who own it--are from Finland. Jouni said that down to the type of wood and rocks, the sauna is just like they have them in Finland. But you have to be ready for hard-core massage. We call any other place the Mop & Glo massage.
