From Times Staff Reports

Oxnard city officials have received state approval to purchase the old Oxnard High School for $2.1 million--slightly more than half its $4-million appraised value. Officials plan to expand youth recreational activities at the school and its surrounding sports fields, City Manager Ed Sotelo said.

The 33-acre campus at 5th and H streets has stood mostly vacant since 1995, when the new, $33-million Oxnard High School opened on Gonzales Road.
