Davis Leads Hornets Past Raptors, 104-90

Baron Davis had 17 points and a career-high 15 assists and all five Charlotte starters scored in double figures Thursday night as the Hornets rolled to a 104-90 victory over the slumping Toronto Raptors at Charlotte, N.C.

Vince Carter scored 21 of his 31 points in the second half in helping the Raptors cut a 29-point deficit to nine, 93-82, with 6:45 to go.

That’s the closest the Raptors got, as Elden Campbell dunked twice and David Wesley made a three-point basket to put the game out of reach.

Lee Nailon scored 19 points for the Hornets before he was ejected for drawing his second technical foul during the fourth quarter. Campbell added 18, Wesley had 16 and P.J. Brown scored 13.

Indiana 108, Houston 106--Reggie Miller scored a season-high 25 points and sank the go-ahead three-pointer in overtime at Indianapolis as the Pacers sent the Rockets to their 12th consecutive loss.

Al Harrington had 23 points and 15 rebounds, Jermaine O’Neal scored 23, Jalen Rose added 20 and Jamaal Tinsley had 18 assists for the Pacers.

Detroit 99, New York 97--Jerry Stackhouse had a career-high 13 assists and 19 points and Corliss Williamson scored a season-high 24 points at Auburn Hills, Mich., as the Pistons maintained the best record in the Eastern Conference.

The Pistons (14-6) have won three in a row and six of seven at home.

Dallas 102, Cleveland 82--Michael Finley’s 22 points and 17 each from Tim Hardaway and Steve Nash led the Mavericks at Dallas.

Dirk Nowitzki had 15 points and Adrian Griffin had nine points and 11 rebounds for the Mavericks, who had lost three of their previous four.

Orlando 105, Golden State 100--Tracy McGrady reached 40 points for the third time in six days as the Magic stopped a three-game losing streak with a victory at Oakland.

McGrady made 19 of 30 shots from the field and had seven rebounds. He reached 40 points on a two-handed dunk with 48 seconds left for a 12-point lead.

Denver 89, Memphis 86--Voshon Lenard scored 13 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter at Denver as the Nuggets ended a five-game losing streak.

Lenard made three consecutive baskets on separate occasions in the final period, bringing the Nuggets back from deficits each time.

Hispanic groups in Denver launched a boycott of the Nuggets, demanding Dan Issel be replaced as coach after he shouted an insensitive ethnic remark and a profanity at a fan in the crowd. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which had distributed Nugget tickets to some of its member businesses, said more than 100 of the tickets had been returned. The chamber said it would give these tickets back to the corporation that had donated them in the first place. The chamber said its members would boycott the Nuggets’ games until Issel was fired. ... NBA assists leader Andre Miller is day-to-day after separating his right shoulder, and Cleveland Cavalier Coach John Lucas plans to be “extra cautious” before permitting him to return. Miller sat out Thursday night against the Dallas Mavericks, missing a game for the first time in three NBA seasons.
