UC Irvine Coasts to Win

UC Irvine had the muscle inside and Jerry Green scored 27 points as UC Irvine defeated Lipscomb, 79-62, Friday night in the opening round of the Wisconsin Green Bay/ Oneida Bingo & Casino Classic.

The Anteaters (7-4) outscored the Bisons (2-9), 48-14, in the paint.

Green made 11 of his 23 field-goal attempts, including a seven-for-11 effort in the second half. The senior guard topped his season average of 23 points per game.

UC Irvine will play Boston University for the championship today. The Terriers (6-5) beat host Wisconsin Green Bay, 79-75, in overtime.

The Anteaters shot 57% (17 for 30) in the final 20 minutes and shot 49% for the game. Jordan Harris added 16 points for Irvine.

Kyle Stephens led Lipscomb with 12 points.

The Bisons, in their second season of NCAA Division I play, have lost seven of their last eight games. Lipscomb committed 20 turnovers, 15 on Irvine steals.

Green had 13 points in the first half to stake the Anteaters to a 39-23 lead. His free throw with 14:37 left in the half started a 13-0 run that opened a 20-6 lead.

Boston University erased a four-point deficit in the final two seconds of regulation and went on to defeat the Wisconsin Green Bay, 79-75, in overtime in another first-round game of the Oneida tournament.

Freshman Chaz Carr scored 11 of his career-high 31 points in the extra period to lead the Terriers (6-5). Green Bay fell to 2-8.
