A 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder Sunday morning after allegedly beating her grandmother in the head with a flashlight, police said.

The 70-year-old woman was listed in critical condition with multiple skull fractures at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, said Glendora police Sgt. Ted Groszewski. The beating occurred during an argument over unwanted visitors, police said.

A jogger who was passing by the house in the 300 block of Temmera Lane about 7:20 a.m. called police when he heard the grandmother’s screams for help, police said.

“We go down to the house and this poor woman is lying in her garage with severe head trauma,” Groszewski said. “Paramedics got there and took one look at her and called for a helicopter.”

Witnesses to the beating told police that the granddaughter chased her grandmother with a red flashlight and beat her over the head with it, police said.

The girl, who lived with her grandmother, was not at the house when police arrived, but later called and was taken into custody. She was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey.
