Pepperdine 94, Portland 58--Brandon Armstrong made eight of 11 shots and scored 22 points at Portland, Ore., as the Waves (18-6, 10-1) remained a game behind West Coast Conference-leading Gonzaga. Pepperdine plays Gonzaga at Spokane, Wash., on Saturday.
Pepperdine never trailed--leading by as many as 28 points in the first half and 41 in the second.
Derrick Anderson and Kelvin Gibbs both had 18 points for Pepperdine. Boomer Brazzle and Craig Lewis, who both played at Portland’s Benson High, also had good games for the Waves. Brazzle had eight rebounds and Lewis scored 13 points.
Pepperdine made 12 of 22 three-point shots, with Armstrong connecting on four of six. Portland (10-14, 3-8) made five of 22 three-point shots.
