Santin Clocks the Fastest College 800 Time of Season

Frances Santin of Cal State Northridge, three-time City Section champion in the 100-meter hurdles at Taft High, clocked the fastest college time for 800 meters in the nation this season, 2:06.91, to win the event Friday at the Vandal Invitational in Moscow, Idaho.

Senior Clinte Motley won the triple jump at 51-8, which surpassed the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9-10 at Fayetteville, Ark.

DRAG RACING

All five defending class champions are expected to compete when the Import Drag Racing Circuit opens its season today and Sunday at Los Angeles County Raceway in Palmdale.

The importdrag.com West Coast Nationals were held at Pomona Raceway the last three years, but the IDRC moved because of the success of its International Finals held at LACR Dec. 2-3, which drew 16,000 spectators and 400 cars for the two-day event that crowned three champions.

Abel Ibarra of Riverside, defending Pro Class champion who has clocked 7.50 seconds in the quarter-mile in his Mazda RX-7, heads the field.

Leevon Eisele of Quartz Hill, the Quick Class runner-up, and defending Quick Class champion Lisa Kubo of Rosemead have also entered.

Gates open both days at 8 a.m., with the first races scheduled for 11 a.m.
