Westlake Football Players Hart, Henley Transfer to Crespi

Junior defensive lineman Chad Henley and sophomore quarterback Mike Hart have transferred from Westlake High to Crespi.

Troy Thomas, hired recently as Crespi football coach, is a former Westlake defensive coordinator who hired Warrior assistants Erik Affholter and Casey Preston on his staff.

Softball--Crystl Bustos, an Olympic gold medalist and professional softball player from Canyon Country, will appear at opening ceremonies for the Northridge ASA girls’ softball league. It was reported incorrectly in an item in Friday’s edition.

Henley, 6 feet 2, 235 pounds, attended Royal as a sophomore and started for Westlake’s varsity last season.

Hart was a backup sophomore quarterback.

Both started classes at Crespi this week.

Lou Lichtl, athletic director at Westlake, said he spoke with Crespi officials and expressed “concern about the situation.”

Thomas said, “I really don’t think anything was done improperly.”

* Kicker Garret Marxen of Alemany, an All-Del Rey League selection, accepted an appointment to the Air Force Academy.

Among the records included: De La Salle of Concord has a 113-game victory streak; kicker Taylor Begley of Danville, Ky., broke an 80-year-old record with 97 extra points in 2000; David Koral of Palisades passed for a national-record 764 yards against Grant last season.

* Jeff DiNapoli of Moorpark College, a former All-Marmonte League and All-Ventura County linebacker, has signed with Moorhead State in Minnesota.

DiNapoli played for Moorpark High’s 1997 Southern Section Division X championship team.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

* Brian Freeth, formerly of Thousand Oaks High, had 17 points and six assists for Holy Names, which won the California Pacific Conference championship and a bid to the NAIA Division II tournament Wednesday night with a 91-64 victory over College of Notre Dame at Dominican University in San Rafael.

Holy Names is 24-9, and 12-4 in conference play. College of Notre Dame was ranked No. 16 in NAIA Division II.

SOFTBALL

* Olympic gold medalist Crystl Bustos will be on hand Saturday for the Northridge Little League opening ceremonies.

Bustos, a Canyon Country resident and professional player, will address the players at 8:30 a.m. and sign autographs following the ceremonies.

* Crescenta Valley High is rated No. 8 in the Student Sports magazine top 25 national poll.

VOLLEYBALL

* Pierce College is holding its alumni match at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Brahmas will raise their men’s state championship banner from last season.

BASEBALL

* Westlake High is rated No. 14 in the nation in the preseason top 25 poll by Student Sports magazine.
