First Look: The Next Round

Philadelphia (12-5) at New York (12-4); 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Channel 11

* When Philadelphia has the ball: The Eagles have gotten into the second round of the playoffs despite a one-dimensional offense. Waiver wire pickup Chris Warren provided quarterback Donovan McNabb with some much-needed help in the running game against Tampa Bay Sunday by gaining 85 yards in 22 carries. Warren must repeat the performance for the Eagles to win. Look for McNabb to use a combination of draw plays and quick passes over the middle to All-Pro tight end Chad Lewis. The Eagles must also get production from their wide receivers on slant routes as the Giants will likely try to blitz McNabb heavily.

* When New York has the ball: The Giants win for one reason--they are fundamentally sound. While none of their skill players are exceptional, as a group they are solid. Look for quarterback Kerry Collins to mix in a variety of screen passes to go with the outside-inside running combination of Tiki Barber and Ron Dayne. The Giants are predictable but that doesn’t make it any easier to stop them. Collins balances the running game with just enough passing to wide receivers Amani Toomer and Ike Hilliard.

* X-factor: Collins. While other quarterbacks have gotten the headlines this season, Collins has brought his career back from the brink of oblivion with his fine play and leadership.

* The edge to: New York. The Giants held the Eagles to an average of 214.5 yards and 12.5 points in their two games this season and are one of the few teams with the ability to stop McNabb. And McNabb is just about all the Eagles have.
