IRVINE

8 p.m.

Music

The Mozart Classical Orchestra will play its annual Mozart birthday program twice this weekend, first in Irvine and then in Newport Beach. Orchestra founder Ami Porat will conduct an Allegro in F, the Symphony No. 39 in E-flat, and the Clarinet Concerto, with soloist Gary Bovyer. Mozart wrote the symphony and the concerto toward the end of his short life, but although the concerto shows some signs of autumnal beauty, the symphony bursts with affirmation of life.

* Mozart Classical Orchestra, Irvine Barclay Theatre, 4242 Campus Drive. 8 p.m. $20 to $36. Also Sunday, 4:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Drive, Newport Beach. $15 to $32. (949) 830-2950.

Jazz

Septuagenarian jazz guitarist Mundell Lowe is best known for his affiliations over half a century with such jazz greats as Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Byrd and Herb Ellis. Yet he also played behind Elvis Presley and many lesser pop luminaries doing studio work in Los Angeles in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. Though he’s closing in on 80, he still plays regularly around the Southland--he lives in San Diego nowadays--as well as in Europe. He’ll appear at the new jazz club in Orange, Vanilla, on Saturday with O.C. seven-string guitarist Ron Eschete and bassist Luther Hughes.

* Mundell Lowe, Ron Eschete and Luther Hughes, Vanilla Cafe, 1948 N. Tustin Ave., Orange. 7:30 p.m. Free. (714) 921-8035.
