FIRST LOOK: CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Share

* How they got here: Baltimore--The Ravens dominated the Denver Broncos, 21-3, in a wild-card playoff game, then upset the favored Tennessee Titans, 24-10, in a divisional playoff game. Oakland--The Raiders had very little trouble disposing of the Miami Dolphins, 27-0, in a divisional game.

* Last meeting: The Ravens defeated the Raiders, 13-10, during the 1998 season and lead the all-time series, 2-0.

* About Baltimore: In midseason, the Ravens went five consecutive games without scoring a touchdown on offense. They were able to overcome that and the fact that they changed quarterbacks during the season. The Ravens might have the best defense in the league, but can’t afford another offensive slump. In two playoff games, the Raven offense has gained only 374 yards but the team has scored 45 points. Including the playoffs, the Ravens have held opponents to 10 points or less in 13 of 18 games this season.

* About Oakland: The Raiders’ biggest problem is their defense, which has been inconsistent all season. They finished the season ranked ninth in the AFC in total defense. Best reason to wish for a Raider victory: Coach Jon Gruden said he would get a tattoo if the Raiders won the AFC. Maybe he’ll get a tattoo of a smile. The Raiders are 6-3 at home, but haven’t given up a touchdown there the last two games.
