Cars Burglarized Near Surfers Point

Share

Police officials here said Tuesday that between 15 and 20 cars have been burglarized or stolen in areas surrounding Surfers Point, where people park to go surfing.

The thefts have been reported the last two months from cars parked along Paseo de Playa, just north of the Holiday Inn, and at a city parking lot south of Seaside Park, home of the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

Ventura Police Lt. Doug Auldridge said the victims parked their cars to go surfing and left their keys hidden in a wheel well or some other spot on the vehicle.

“The suspects are apparently watching surfers arrive at the beach and place their car keys where they can retrieve them after surfing,” according to a prepared statement by Police Det. Glenn Utter.

In two cases vehicles were stolen, and in the remaining cases victims reported missing stereos, wallets, cell phones and CDs.

Anyone with information should call Police Cpl. John Keller at 648-8143.
