UC Irvine 80, UC Santa Barbara 56--Freshman Adam Parada, a 7-foot center, had 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for the Anteaters (11-2, 3-0) in a Big West Conference game at Bren Events Center.

Senior guard Malachi Edmond had 12 points and five rebounds and senior swingman Sean Jackson finished with 11 points. Irvine, off to its best start in 20 seasons, won for the seventh consecutive time.

Forward Mark Hull, a Hoover High graduate, led the Gauchos (5-8, 2-1) with 14 points, 11 of those in the first half when Santa Barbara came out firing.

Guard Jerry Green finished with 23 points and seven assists for Irvine. He was eight of nine from the free throw line, but he was cold from the field early. Santa Barbara made five of its first eight shots to lead, 13-10, on Hull’s basket with 14:14 to play in the first half.

Santa Barbara led, 16-12, with 12:48 left in the first half.

But reserve guard Aras Baskauskas of Irvine drove to the basket for a basket and Jackson made a three-point basket after an inbounds toss from Green. Green made a 15-foot baseline jumper and Irvine led, 19-17.

Irvine which out-rebounded the Gauchos, 41-24, went on a 10-0 run for a 29-19 lead and increased the cushion to as many as 24 points in the second half.
