Jason Collins’ brawn, Casey Jacobsen’s bombs and some tough defense propelled Stanford to a victory befitting the nation’s top-ranked team.

Collins had a career-high 24 points and 12 rebounds, and Jacobsen hit four three-pointers and had 20 points as Stanford beat Oregon, 100-76, Saturday at Stanford.

The Cardinal (15-0, 4-0 Pac-10) was impressive and businesslike in its ninth consecutive victory over the Ducks (10-3, 1-2). While Jacobsen was dangerous from outside, Collins’ dominant inside performance impressed his teammates.

“Jase is a beast down there,” Jacobsen said. “If he gets the ball that close, you can just chalk up the two points, or he’s going to the line. It’s case closed.”

After scoring one point in the first eight minutes of its 73-49 win over Oregon State on Thursday night, the Cardinal didn’t wait around this time.

Stanford made a 26-7 run in the first half, highlighted by 11 points from Collins, who scored at will on Oregon’s slow-footed frontcourt and made all eight of his free throws.

“They had a problem with Jason size-wise,” Stanford Coach Mike Montgomery said. “We had to exploit that. We keyed our offense off Jason in the post, and it was very successful.”

At 15-0, Stanford is three victories shy of matching the best start in school history, set in the 1997-98 season. Oregon hasn’t won at Maples since 1986.

No. 21 Arizona 89, Washington 64--At Seattle, Michael Wright had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Loren Woods added 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots for the Wildcats (10-5, 3-1).

It was another strong defensive effort for Arizona, which held Washington (7-9, 1-3) to a season-low shooting percentage of 28.6. It was the third time this season the Wildcats have held an opponent below 30% overall. They limited Washington State to 29% in their 84-51 victory Thursday night.

Arizona played its fifth game without head coach Lute Olson, whose wife, Bobbi, died of ovarian cancer Jan. 1. Interim coach Jim Rosborough is 3-2.

California 81, Oregon State 67--Joe Shipp came off the bench to score a season-high 21 points in the Bears’ victory over the injury-riddled Beavers at Berkeley.

Sean Lampley added 20 points and six rebounds for the Bears (11-4, 3-1), who won their 12th consecutive game at Haas Pavilion dating to last season.

Brian Jackson scored 21 points to lead Oregon State (0-3, 6-9), which was forced to play the final 4:45 with only six players after Jackson fouled out. The Beavers, depleted by injuries that left them with only seven players suited up, were without center Jason Heide, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder who aggravated an ankle injury in Thursday’s loss to Stanford.

The Bears, by comparison, used all 15 of their players after emptying the bench in the final minutes of the game.

Washington State 81, Arizona State 60--Mike Bush had a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars at Pullman, Wash.

The Sun Devils (8-7, 0-4) were within four points with just under four minutes remaining before Washington State (7-6, 1-3) pulled away.

Bush made three of his career-high 17 free throws after Arizona State Coach Rob Evans was ejected with 1:42 left.

For the game, the Cougars made 37 of 47 free throws, a school record against conference opponents.
