Late Run Propels Kansas

Jeff Boschee scored 21 points to lead five Kansas players in double figures Monday night as the fourth-ranked Jayhawks used a late run to pull away for an 85-75 victory over Colorado at Boulder, Colo.

Drew Gooden had 10 points and 12 rebounds and Kirk Hinrich had 11 assists to help Kansas, 16-1 overall and 5-0 in the Big 12 Conference, defeat Colorado for the 23rd consecutive time.

Colorado (12-7, 2-4) hasn’t defeated Kansas since Feb. 20, 1991.

D.J. Harrison led Colorado with 26 points, and Stephane Pelle had 15 points and 15 rebounds, but the Buffaloes were hurt by poor shooting and careless ballhandling down the stretch.

After leading, 62-55, on Harrison’s long three-point basket with 13:48 to play, Colorado made only four of 16 shots and had four turnovers the rest of the way.

The Buffaloes also went more than six minutes without a field goal and were outscored, 16-4, over the final 5:48.

OTHER GAMES

Omar Cook had 17 points and nine assists and Anthony Glover scored all four of his points in overtime to help St. John’s (11-6, 5-1) to a 67-63 Big East victory over Miami (10-8, 2-5) at New York. . . . Uche Ugezue scored a career-high 21 points and Wyoming (12-4, 3-1) overcame an 18-point deficit in an 85-78 Mountain West Conference victory over Brigham Young (13-6, 2-2) at Laramie, Wyo. . . . John Sivesind scored a career-high 27 points and made all five of his three-point shots to lead Colorado State (11-5, 2-1) to a 73-65 Mountain West victory over Utah (11-8, 3-2) at Fort Collins, Colo.

WOMEN

Notre Dame received its reward for beating Connecticut--a No. 1 ranking for the first time in the Associated Press women’s basketball poll.

The Irish (18-0) replaced Connecticut (15-1) atop the poll and ended Huskies’ 30-week run at No. 1, the second longest in history.

Connecticut, which lost last week at Notre Dame, 92-76, dropped to second.

Freshman Iciss Tillis scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half to help fourth-ranked Duke (18-1, 6-1) to a 71-68 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over Virginia (13-7, 4-2) at Charlottesville, Va.
