Three teenagers suspected of robbing a video store Monday were arrested after police surrounded the home of two of the boys.

About noon, the two 16-year-olds and one 14-year-old allegedly robbed Vivid Video in the 100 block of MacArthur Boulevard while using a handgun, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Raul Luna said.

One of the 16-year-olds allegedly entered the store and robbed the clerk at gunpoint while the other two boys stood outside.

Luna said the boys apparently panicked after the robbery and ran. Police declined to say what was stolen from the store.

Witnesses told two motorcycle officers the boys ran down a bike trail. Another person contacted officers and said he saw three boys run into a house on Woodland Place.

Police surrounded the home, and a call to the house was answered by the father of the 14-year-old and one of the 16-year-olds.

The father had no idea that officers had surrounded his house and were looking for his sons, Luna said, adding that the man fully cooperated with police.

The boys were arrested after the man brought them outside.

Luna said officers found evidence in the home that ties the boys to the robbery.

“They look like just regular kids,” Luna said. “If you saw them on the street, you wouldn’t take a second look at them.”

The boys were being questioned at the Santa Ana Police Department on Monday afternoon.
