MOTOR RACING ROUNDUP
David Gilliland of Anaheim Hills went wire-to-wire to win the Food4Less Super Late Model Miller Lite 75 main event Saturday night in front of 6,314 at Irwindale Speedway.
Gilliland, winning his third race of the season, held off the 22-car field despite four caution flags and a challenge by Long Beach’s Rip Michels. Brandon Loverock finished third, followed by Nathan Wulff and Brent Reynolds.
In the Southern California Auto Club Late Model main event, a devastating eight-car accident in the first lap caused a 25-minute delay in the race, forcing a restart and a 25-lap reduction in the race total.
Chuck Kevwitch of Lake Elizabeth was injured in the crash and transported to Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Baldwin Park.
On the restart, Palm Springs’ Deryk Ward, the Late Model point leader, took control of the lead after lap 10 and held off a series of charges from Mike Price to win the 50-lap race.
