Redding Is a Hit in His First Victory

Rookie right-hander Tim Redding got his first major league victory and his first big league hit Monday night as the Houston Astros defeated the struggling Milwaukee Brewers, 6-4, at Milwaukee.
Redding (1-0) gave up three runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out eight in the Astros’ third consecutive victory at Miller Park.
Jimmy Haynes (5-10) lost his career-worst sixth consecutive decision. Milwaukee fell to 2-8 against Houston this season.
Redding pitched six scoreless innings before giving up a three-run homer to Raul Casanova in his second start and third big league appearance.
Houston pulled to within four games of the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs. The Brewers have lost seven of eight.
Pittsburgh 10, Cincinnati 5--Aramis Ramirez doubled, homered and singled in his first three at-bats at Cincinnati, driving in five runs in helping the Pirates end a three-game losing streak.
The Pirates pummeled Lance Davis (1-1), who threw 50 pitches in the first inning as Pittsburgh batted around for four runs. Ramirez’s three-run home run in the second ended Davis’ night.
