Four JetHawks Make All-Star Team

Four Lancaster JetHawks will join designated hitter Nathan Kaup (Camarillo) of Bakersfield and right-handed pitcher Wayne Nix (Monroe) of Visalia on the California League all-star team, which plays the Carolina League all-stars on June 19 at The Hangar.

Catcher J.D. Closser, infielders Matt Kata and Billy Martin, and outfielder Kevan Burns were selected from Lancaster.

Martin will start at third base and Burns will start in left field. Kaup will start at designated hitter. Scott Coolbaugh of Lancaster will manage California.

Infielder Ryan Hankins (Simi Valley) of Winston-Salem and outfielders Covelli Crisp (Pierce) of Potomac and Danny Phillips (Chatsworth-Northridge) of Salem were chosen to play for Carolina.

J.D. Closser of Lancaster struck out with the bases loaded to end the game and San Bernardino won, 6-5, Friday night at San Bernardino.

Dwight Edge drove in one run for the JetHawks after Ruben Castillo’s two-run single in the eighth off Dan Castillo gave the Stampede a 6-4 lead.

Designated hitter Ryan Hankins (Simi Valley) had two hits and drove in a run, but Winston-Salem (White Sox) fell to Frederick, 7-2.
