The Boston Red Sox’s four-game winning streak was history after one swing of Carlos Delgado’s bat.

In the ninth inning, Delgado drilled the first pitch from Boston reliever Pete Schourek over the left-field wall Friday night to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 4-3 victory at Boston.

“In that situation early in the count, I’m looking for a pitch I can drive,” Delgado said.

Raul Mondesi also homered, the 200th of his career, and Brad Fullmer and Darrin Fletcher had RBI singles in the seventh as Toronto defeated Boston for just the second time in eight games.

Pedro Borbon (2-3) got one out to pick up the victory, and Billy Koch pitched a perfect ninth for his 12th save.

Boston squandered a strong performance from starter Hideo Nomo, who struck out 12 in eight innings, giving up three runs on six hits.

Toronto got 7 2/3 strong innings from starter Esteban Loaiza, but he couldn’t hold a 3-2 lead in the eighth when Boston’s Jose Offerman drove in pinch-runner Shea Hillenbrand from third with a bloop single to tie the score, 3-3.

Cleveland 6, Kansas City 5--Juan Gonzalez hit a go-ahead home run to lead the visiting Indians. Gonzalez’s 18th homer of the season, a two-run shot off reliever Blake Stein (2-4) that broke a 4-4 tie in the seventh, was the 380th of his career. That gave Gonzalez the most homers by a Puerto Rico-born player, a record he had shared with Orlando Cepeda.

Baltimore 6, Chicago 4--David Segui hit a two-run double to break a 3-3 tie in the seventh as the Orioles rallied to defeat David Wells and the White Sox at Baltimore. Jose Canseco, playing in his second game with the White Sox, drove in three runs.

Texas 2, Oakland 1--Doug Davis scattered seven hits over seven innings to lead the Rangers at Oakland. Frank Catalanotto and Ivan Rodriguez each had two hits and drove in a run as the Rangers won their fourth consecutive game at Oakland.

Detroit 5, Minnesota 4--Robert Fick hit a home run off Bob Wells (5-3) in the eighth as the host Tigers overcame a four-run deficit to defeat the Twins, who have lost seven of their last eight games.
