A Montana man, apparently confused by Northern California geography, was arrested Sunday evening at Burbank Airport after he jumped a fence, ran across a runway and tried to board a plane bound for San Jose, police said.

Timothy John Grabowski, 31, of Missoula, Mont., said he was running late as he tried to board the 5:55 p.m. Southwest Airlines plane to the Silicon Valley, Burbank Police Sgt. Rick Madrid said. A flight attendant stopped him, and airport police were called.

Grabowski had a reservation for a later Southwest flight to Oakland, Madrid said, but seemed to think he was booked for a trip to San Francisco. He was booked on suspicion of trespassing on airport property and jailed.

“He gets an extra stay in beautiful downtown Burbank,” Madrid said.

The San Jose flight’s departure was slightly delayed.
