Rodriguez’s Double Worth Three Runs in Fullerton Victory

Mike Rodriguez doubled home three runs in the eighth inning, leading host Fullerton to a 4-3 victory over Golden West in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday.

Rodriguez, Ryan McLean and Jonathon Bower had two hits each for the Hornets (9-6, 3-1).

Brett Becker hit his third home run of the season for Golden West (7-10, 0-4).

In other conference games:

Orange Coast 3, Irvine Valley 2 (12)--Scott Beerer’s two-out single in the 12th inning drove in Chris Sinner with the winning run for host Orange Coast (13-3, 3-1). Glenn Hedgpeth allowed just two hits and struck out five in three innings of relief for the Pirates. David Stone and Bobby Pearce each collected two hits for Irvine Valley (5-12, 0-4).

Santa Ana 9, Saddleback 3--Joe Rogers survived a rough first inning to pick up a complete-game victory for host Santa Ana (13-3, 3-1). After giving up two runs in the first, Rogers settled down to toss an eight-hitter and improve his record to 4-1. Justin Gerlach was three for four with a double and three stolen bases. Anthony Gonzales added three hits and two runs batted in. Saddleback fell to 13-4, 2-2.

In Orange Empire Conference softball:

Fullerton 2, Riverside 0--Kristin Shea was two for three, including a run-scoring double in the second inning, for Fullerton (15-4, 3-0). Andee Lindgren pitched a three-hitter, striking out five, for the Hornets.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 8, Riverside 1--With the win, Saddleback swept the first round of conference play to stand alone in first place. All other teams have at least one loss at this point. Saddleback was led by David DiMartino in singles and in doubles with his partner Jason Efstathiou.
