The most consistent player for a team that lost only two games despite being riddled with injuries much of the season. Baduria, an attacking defender, scored eight goals and had two assists. He was named the Empire League’s most valuable player and was a first-team All-Southern Section Division III selection.

Luke Boughen

SANTA MARGARITA FORWARD SR.

He scored 15 goals and had 14 assists, but was at his best in the playoffs--scoring five times in four games for the Eagles, who lost to Santa Barbara in the Division III semifinals. Boughen, the offensive MVP of the Serra League, was a first-team All-Southern Section Division III selection.

Josh Brown

CAPISTRANO VALLEY DEFENDER SR

The diminutive sweeper played big in the back for Capistrano Valley, which reached the Division I quarterfinals. The UC Irvine-bound Brown had four goalie saves. He was named first-team All-South Coast League for the second year in a row and was selected first-team All-Southern Section Division I.

Matt Fennell

MATER DEI FORWARD SR.

The offensive MVP of Division II, Fennell led the Monarchs to a second consecutive Southern Section title. He scored a team-high 15 goals--including one in the 2-0 title game win over La Puente Nogales--and had a team-high 13 assists. He was selected first-team All-Serra League for the second year in a row.

Erick Foss

SANTA MARGARITA GOALKEEPER SR.

The tall and athletic Foss capped a spectacular career with 18 shutouts, giving him 48 over four years. He allowed only 14 goals and had a remarkable 0.48 goals-against average. Foss, who is following his brother Byron to SMU, was named the state’s Gatorade National High School player of the year.

Brad Hallack

WOODBRIDGE DEFENDER SR.

Hallack’s specialty was marking the opponent’s most dangerous forward. He shut down such threats as Dana Hills’ Forrest Smith and Huntington Beach’s Drew McAthy and was named co-MVP of the Sea View League. Hallack, who is bound for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, also had four goals and four assists.

Cameron Kolovos

LOS ALAMITOS MIDFIELDER JR.

Despite his lack of size, Kolovos controlled the midfield and was the second-leading scorer for the Sunset League champions. The only junior on the first team scored four of his 11 goals in the playoffs and had three of his 11 assists in the postseason for the Griffins, who lost in the Division I semifinals.

Rawlston Masaniai

A first-team selection for the second consecutive year, Masaniai’s poise and speed in the back helped lead the Monarchs to their second Division II title in a row. The San Jose State-bound Masaniai was named defensive MVP of Division II and first-team All-Serra League for a second straight year.

Drew McAthy

HUNTINGTON BEACH FORWARD SR

McAthy, a repeat first-team pick and a second-team selection as a sophomore, led the Oilers in scoring with 16 goals and also had six assists. McAthy, the co-MVP of the Sunset League with Mike Munoz and an All-Southern Section Division I pick, will join his brother Aaron at UC Santa Barbara.

Despite missing nearly half the season with hamstring and ankle injuries and often being double-teamed, he scored 14 goals and had 13 assists. Munoz, who has signed with California, was named co-MVP of the Sunset League. In the Division I playoffs, he had two game-winning goals.

Forrest Smith

DANA HILLS FORWARD SR

After missing most of last season with a broken leg, Smith came out of nowhere to lead the county with 24 goals. The offensive MVP of Division I, Smith used his size and speed to break down defenders. He also had six assists and helped lead the Dolphins to the Southern Section Division I final.

SECOND TEAM

PIETER BERGER, Woodbridge, forward, Jr.

A second-team pick for the second year in a row, Berger had 19 goals and nine assists. He was All-Sea View League for the third year in a row.

MATT DuHADWAY, Dana Hills, midfielder, Sr.

A first-team All-Southern Section Division I selection, DuHadway had nine goals and seven assists for the Division I finalist Dolphins.

YOHEI FUKUDA, University, midfielder, Sr.

A three-time All-Pacific Coast League selection, the Cal-bound Fukuda had 12 goals and eight assists.

JACOB HUBER, Villa Park, forward, Sr.

The Century League MVP had 20 goals and 16 assists for the Spartans.

STEVE JENNINGS, Dana Hills, forward, Sr.

As Forrest Smith’s running mate, he was the Dolphins’ second leading scorer with 13 goals and 12 assists.

ARMANDO ORTIZ, Estancia, midfield, Sr.

The co-MVP of the Pacific Coast League had eight goals and six assists.

MIKE MAYNARD, Brea Olinda, goalkeeper, Sr.

Had a school-record 19 shutouts and was brilliant in the Division III semifinals and finals.

NAZARIO MIRAMONTES, Sonora, defender, Sr.

The Freeway League MVP had three goals and 10 assists for the Division III quarterfinalists.

JOEY SPERANZA, Santa Margarita, defender, Sr.

Attacking defender had two goals and 11 assists for the Serra League champions and Division III semifinalists.

DREW TOLMAN, Fountain Valley, defender, Jr.

The defensive MVP of the Sunset League had 10 goals and three assists.

RYAN VALDEZ, El Dorado, midfielder, Sr.

The UCLA-bound Valdez missed half the season with injuries but still had eight goals and three assists.
