Davis Selected to Coach Basketball at Pacifica

Howard Davis, assistant men’s basketball coach at Moorpark College, has been selected boys’ coach at Pacifica High.

Davis teaches at Hueneme High and was appointed Pacifica’s athletic director in September. He has been an assistant at Moorpark for six years.

Davis coached the Hueneme boys for six seasons before joining the Moorpark staff. He helped lead the Vikings to three appearances in the Southern Section playoffs.

Pacifica is scheduled to open in in the fall.

TRACK AND FIELD

* Sophomore Allyson Felix of L.A. Baptist High placed second in the girls’ 200 meters in the Nike Indoor Classic at Prince George’s Sports and Learning Center in Landover. Md., on Sunday.

Felix, who placed seventh in the 200 in the state championships last June, ran 24.06, her fastest indoor time ever.

Senior Erica Whipple of West Palm Beach, Fla., placed first in 23.78.

Senior Porchea Carroll of Rio Mesa was seventh in the long jump at 17-6 3/4.

SOCCER

* Natalie Sanderson, who led Buena High to consecutive Southern Section Division II titles and is an under-19 national player, tore her left anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus Sunday.

Sanderson was playing for California in an Olympic Development national tournament final in Las Vegas. California lost, 2-1, to Michigan. Sanderson, who will play at Stanford, scored in a 4-0 semifinal victory over North Carolina. She is expected to return to action in five months.
