Freshman Dorr Closes Out Hueneme, 3-0

Who says Camarillo High is without a dominating pitcher for the first time in a decade?

Freshman Sara Dorr won’t make people forget former aces Kathryn Nevard or Cindy Ball any time soon, but she certainly held her own against a good-hitting team on Tuesday.

Dorr pitched a one-hitter against upstart Hueneme and the Scorpions registered a 3-0 victory in a Pacific View League game at Camarillo.

Hueneme (6-2, 1-1 in league play) managed only two baserunners in the first six innings and hit 13 fly balls.

“We made [Dorr] look like an All-American,” said Hueneme Coach Nichole Victoria, a Camarillo alumna.

“That was the worst display of hitting that we’ve had all season.”

Camarillo (6-2-1, 3-0), ranked No. 5 in the region by The Times, scored a run in the fourth on a ground ball by Beth Boskovich.

Two innings later, Boskovich, a junior third baseman, ripped a liner over the right fielder’s head for a two-run triple and a 3-0 Camarillo lead.

“You can’t throw to [Boskovich] with [runners at second and third] and first base open,” Victoria said. “That’s a total mistake by our pitcher. She knew. I told her to throw completely around her and she throws a meatball down the middle.”

Monica Cerda (3-2) allowed only one hit through six innings and finished with a three-hitter.
