Allen Leads Matadors to Victory

Freshman Beth Allen won the individual title and led Cal State Northridge to a two-stroke victory over Denver on Tuesday in the Colby Classic women’s golf tournament at Rancho Canada Golf Club in Carmel Valley.
Allen shot 72-73--145, three-over par, to finish five strokes ahead of Christine Anast of Denver, and Kelley Carlson of Northridge tied for third at 77-79--156.
Northridge finished at 308-315--623, with Denver at 309-316--625.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Taft def. Chatsworth, 15-9, 9-15, 17-15, 15-5--Bryan Capper had 25 kills for the Toreadors in a West Valley League match at Taft.
Nick Armstrong had 13 kills and Joel Rodstein added 12 for Taft (5-1, 2-1), ranked No. 9 in the region by The Times.
Chatsworth, ranked No. 5, is 5-1, 1-1.
Village Christian def. Paraclete, 15-5, 15-8, 15-9--Ken Benesh had 18 kills in an Alpha League match at Paraclete and set a school season record with 1,015 kills for the Crusaders (12-0, 2-0).
Benesh broke the mark of 1,005 set by Chad Hansen in 1995.
BOYS’ GOLF
Camarillo 380, Rio Mesa 411--Freshman Colin Wilcox shot a three-under-par 68 in a Pacific View League victory at Spanish Hills Country Club.
Wilcox had five birdies and two bogeys for Camarillo (10-2, 3-0).
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Valley 6, Ventura 1--Ismael Marin struck out 15, including six in the final two innings, for the Monarchs in a Western State Conference game at Valley.
Marin gave up eight hits and walked two.
Anthony Fabrizio hit a two-run home run and Victor Samaniego hit a two-run triple for the Monarchs (3-21-1, 2-10).
John Poehler hit his first home run for Ventura (7-13, 3-9).
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Valley 6, Citrus 5--Carin Garcia hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to give the Monarchs a WSC Southern Division victory at Citrus.
Garcia had three hits and four RBIs for Valley (8-13-1, 4-8).
