An area of Disneyland closed to the public after a falling tree injured 27 people was reopened Saturday, and officials of the theme park continued investigating what might have caused the accident.

A large cork oak tree in Frontierland collapsed Friday evening, sending 18 people to emergency rooms at six hospitals. Several hospitals declined comment on conditions of the victims, but Anaheim Fire Department spokeswoman Maria Sabol said all the injuries were minor.

The huge tree, which stood near the Rivers of America and the Golden Horseshoe Revue, toppled without warning, sending tourists scrambling and prompting park officials to close Frontierland. A park receptionist said the area was reopened Saturday.

The park pays the city of Anaheim $1.4 million a year to station paramedics full time at the park. The paramedics began work Tuesday and responded to Friday’s incident.
