Recycling Center Fire Damage Totals $400,000

A fire caused about $400,000 in damage at a Santa Clarita recycling center, fire officials said Saturday.

The blaze at Quality Paper Fiber at Soledad Canyon Road and Oak Avenue began at 8 p.m. Friday and was mostly contained by 10 p.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Firefighters stayed at the scene until 1 p.m. Saturday to secure the area.

More than 3 acres of paper, cardboard and plastic products burned. The cause is unknown.

About $150,000 in recyclables and $250,000 in machinery were destroyed.
