Deadly Pursuit of Hijacked Bus

Share

Re “1 Killed, 7 Hurt as Hijacked MTA Bus Plows Into Vehicles,” May 3: I don’t understand. The policy of the police is not to shoot at a fleeing suspect, even one suspected of a violent crime and with a hostage, if there is risk of hitting an innocent citizen. But if a suspect flees in a vehicle, the police proceed with a high-speed chase. Not surprisingly, the result too often is a crash where innocent people are injured or killed.

What did the police think would result from the high-speed chase of a 16-ton bus through the downtown rush-hour traffic? Unfortunately, it was the death of an innocent citizen. It’s past time to change this deadly police policy.

Thank God the bus did not carry that horrific advertising that makes it impossible to see inside.
