Lee Helps White Sox Subdue Rangers, 7-4

When Carlos Lee is feeling good at the plate, it really doesn’t matter how much he knows about the pitcher.

Lee homered, hit two doubles and drove in three runs against Texas Ranger rookie R.A. Dickey on Monday as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Rangers, 7-4.

Texas starter Darren Oliver was knocked out of the game and onto the disabled list by Chicago leadoff hitter Tony Graffanino. The Rangers replaced him with Dickey (0-1), their 1996 first-round pick, making only his fourth major league appearance.

“All of a sudden everything changes, especially a guy you’ve never seen,” Lee said. “But I feel good at the plate. When you feel good, no matter what the pitcher throws, it’s pretty good.”

Lee’s double in the first inning gave the White Sox a 2-0 lead in the makeup game, which was played in a nearly empty ballpark. After the Rangers took a 3-2 lead, Lee doubled again in the fourth and scored on a two-run double by Chris Singleton that put Chicago ahead to stay.

While the announced paid attendance was 30,073, only about 4,500 people were in the stands.

Oliver was struck on the left thumb by a ball off the bat of Graffanino leading off the game and needed stitches to close a cut. He will be put on the 15-day disabled list today.
