Brendan Gaughan won his second consecutive Winston West Series race Saturday night, capturing the Food 4 Less main event before 6,648 at Irwindale Speedway.

Rookie Mark Reed finished second in the 254-lap race, 0.338 seconds behind Gaughan. Irwindale regular Sean Woodside finished third, followed by Kevin Richards and Bill Sedgwick.

Reed regained the series points lead, jumping ahead of Austin Cameron by 39 points.

Gaughan started as the second-fastest qualifier and led the first 77 laps. Then came the first caution of the night, a spinout by rookie driver Kazuki Saito on the back straightaway. Sammy Potashnick took over on the restart at Lap 91, with Gaughan back in sixth position after an extended pit stop.

Woodside took over on Lap 109 but lost the lead to Richards after rookie John Borneman III spun out trying to keep Woodside from lapping him. Gaughan took back the lead on Lap 132.
