Cal State Hayward 8, Cal Lutheran 7--Aaron Dixon of Cal Lutheran hit two home runs, one from each side of the plate, but grounded into a game-ending double play with the bases loaded in a NCAA Division III West Regional first-round game at Hart Park in Orange.

Cal Lutheran (27-14) will play top-seeded Chapman today at 7 p.m.

Dixon’s second home run, a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh, pulled the Kingsmen even, 7-7, but Hayward (24-16) scored on a single by Rudy Martinez in the ninth.

Dixon was the first Cal Lutheran player to homer from both sides of the plate since Gary Loyd in 1968. Dixon, a junior center fielder from Ventura High, has five homers.
