Gonzaga 7, Pepperdine 6--The Bulldogs (28-25) scored six runs in the ninth inning to take the first game of the West Coast Conference championship series at Pepperdine (39-16).
Former Crespi High and Pierce College standout Barry Matthews singled in the tying and go-ahead runs with two outs in the ninth.
Matthews (9-2) also allowed 10 hits and five earned runs in eight innings.
The best-of-three series continues today at 1 p.m.
Jared Pitney and Danny Garcia each had two hits for Pepperdine. Pitney hit his 11th homer.
CS Northridge 7, UC Riverside 2--Adam Nikolic was three for three and the Matadors (32-22) won a nonconference game at Northridge.
Northridge right-hander Kameron Loe (5-1) struck out seven and allowed two unearned runs in six innings.
Northridge’s Robert Smith had two hits, including his 11th home run.
