Cal State Fullerton’s softball team was eliminated from an NCAA regional tournament in Arizona on Saturday when the Titans lost, 4-3, to Southwest Texas State.

The defeat, coupled with an earlier 5-4 loss to Arizona, knocked the Titans out of the double-elimination tournament and ended their season.

Fullerton (48-14) tied the score, 3-3, on Yasmin Mossadeghi’s two-run home run in the third inning against Southwest Texas State (54-11), but Elizabeth Wissel singled to drive in Sarah Youngdale with the winning run in the fifth for the Bobcats.

The Titans loaded the bases in the sixth, but Jenny Topping grounded out.

In the first game the Titans got 10 hits against Arizona ace Jennie Finch, but missed a scoring opportunity in the seventh inning when Amanda Hockett, who had a home run and single, lined into a game-ending double play after Jodie Cox’s two-run single had pulled Fullerton to within one run.

In a regional at UCLA:

UCLA 3, San Diego State 1--Taira Mims hit her 17th home run of the season and Keira Goerl pitched a three-hitter Saturday to lead UCLA to victory in an NCAA softball regional at UCLA.

The Bruins (58-5) and Aztecs (41-24) will play again in the regional final today at 12:30 p.m. at UCLA after San Diego State scored six runs in the seventh inning and defeated Wisconsin, 6-1, later Saturday in an elimination game.

UCLA’s Stephanie Ramos broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with a run-scoring single to right field, pinch-runner Erin Rahn narrowly avoiding the tag of San Diego State catcher Brooke Johnson.
