FIRST QUARTER

Highlight Reel: It’s a rare occurrence when the Lakers’ Shaquille O’Neal gets dunked on but San Antonio’s Tim Duncan gave him a taste of his own medicine when he threw down a one-hander after getting a nice pass from Terry Porter.

It’s Not in the Box Score: How many of the 75 reporters sitting at the Alamodome press row just shook their heads in awe after each one of the four baskets made by the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant.

Winning Number: 10. Points scored by San Antonio guard Antonio Daniels, who started the game aggressively looking for opportunities on offense and made both of his three-point attempts.

Wrong Number: Two. Points scored by cold-shooting O’Neal, who missed four of five field-goal attempts.

Leading Scorers: Lakers: Bryant 8, Horace Grant 5, Spurs: Daniels 10, Duncan 8.

Leading Rebounders: Lakers: O’Neal 5. Spurs: Danny Ferry, David Robinson and Duncan 2 each.

SECOND QUARTER

Highlight Reel: After displaying his power in the first quarter, Duncan showed off his footwork with two spectacular plays on the move against Robert Horry. He left the Laker forward flat-footed on a reverse dunk and moments later did it again before avoiding O’Neal with a reverse layup.

It’s Not in the Box Score: The Spurs’ roughhouse play on O’Neal, who got a technical foul after getting tired of it and complaining.

Winning Number: 17. As if he wanted to show the NBA he has still got plenty of game, Duncan scored this many points, making eight of 10 shots.

Wrong Number: .286. The field-goal percentage for the Lakers, who missed 15 of 21 shots.

Leading Scorers: Lakers: Bryant 5; Rick Fox, Derek Fisher and O’Neal 3 each. Spurs: Duncan 17, Robinson 4.

Leading Rebounders: Lakers: O’Neal 3; Grant and Fox 2 each. Spurs: Duncan 6; Sean Elliott and Robinson 3 each.

THIRD QUARTER

Highlight Reel: Daniels looked as if he was going to score with a one-hand dunk after driving the baseline but instead was rejected by Horry, who timed his jump perfectly.

It’s Not in the Box Score: The smooth walk of Laker Coach Phil Jackson when he left the court after he picked up his second technical foul following a running conversation with official Bob Delaney.

Winning Numbers: 12 and seven. Points scored by the Lakers and the Spurs after Jackson was ejected, as his team rallied to trail by only one heading into the fourth quarter.

Wrong Number: 68. Seconds Robinson needed to pick up two fouls and send him to the bench for the rest of the quarter with four.

Leading Scorers: Lakers: O’Neal 9, Fisher 8. Spurs: Duncan 8, Daniels 6.

Leading Rebounders: Lakers: Bryant 4, O’Neal 3. Spurs: Malik Rose 5, Daniels 2.

FOURTH QUARTER

Highlight Reel: Following a quiet third quarter, Bryant got his game going when he spun away from Daniels for a two-hand dunk and then followed with a soft jump shot in Daniels’ face. But he saved his best for last when he drained a wide-open three-point shot with 1:10 remaining.

It’s Not in the Box Score: How San Antonio didn’t have an answer when the Lakers moved Bryant to small forward for much of the final five minutes with Brian Shaw and Fisher in the backcourt.

Winning Number: Four. With San Antonio’s shooting off the mark, O’Neal had a huge impact by grabbing this many defensive rebounds.

Wrong Number: Three. Field goals made by San Antonio in 15 attempts.

Leading Scorers: Lakers: Bryant 9, O’Neal 5. Spurs: Duncan 7, Daniels 5.

Leading Rebounders: Lakers: O’Neal 4, Horry 2. Spurs: Duncan 6, Robinson 4.
