Brian Vahaly of Virginia and Al Garland of Pepperdine, both unseeded, advanced to today’s semifinals of the NCAA men’s tournament at Athens, Ga.
The winner of their match will play either Matias Boeker of Georgia or Guilaume Legat of South Carolina for the championship.
Vahaly defeated Phil King of Duke, 6-2, 1-6, 6-0, in the quarterfinals. Garland defeated Michael Kogan of Tulane, 7-5, 6-4.
Boeker eliminated Steve Berke of Yale, 6-3, 6-4, after earlier defeating Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA, 6-1, 6-4, in the third round. Legat defeated K.J. Hippensteel of Stanford 7-5, 6-3.
