Orange County was well-represented at the recent Women’s College World Series, placing four former high school standouts on the all-tournament team.

Arizona catcher Lindsey Collins was selected. Collins, formerly of Fountain Valley High, hit a fourth-inning home run off UCLA pitcher Amanda Freed, formerly of Pacifica, to enable the Wildcats to defeat the Bruins, 1-0, in Monday’s championship game. Freed (21-4) had thrown 38-consecutive scoreless innings prior to Collins’ blast.

Arizona third baseman Toni Mascarenas, from Pacifica, hit three home runs and drove in seven of Arizona’s 10 runs during the series.

Pitcher Jennie Finch (32-0) of Arizona, a graduate of La Mirada High, pitched a four-hitter in the final and was named the most outstanding player of the tournament.
