Dorsey Flattens Fremont in 21-6 Win

Dorsey High cornerback Marques Binns stuck close to All-City receiver Mark Bradford of Fremont on Friday night, and it paid off. The Dons’ defense turned in an overpowering performance in a 21-6 victory that gave Dorsey (6-3, 4-1) second place in the Coliseum League.

Quarterback Abe Escobar of Fremont came in having completed 63% of his passes for 1,191 yards and 15 touchdowns. With five minutes to play, he had 13 yards passing. He finished six of 17 for 56 yards with three interceptions.

“Our guys in the secondary did a heck of a job,” Dorsey Coach Paul Knox said.

Binns, who had an interception, has known Bradford since they were 11. It was an intense individual duel Friday, with lots of holding, shoving and pushing. But Binns won the battle. Bradford didn’t have a reception until there was 5:16 left.

“It was extremely fun,” said Binns, who is being recruited by California. “We played them physical.”

Running back Jermaine Moore rushed for 128 yards in 13 carries and scored two touchdowns for Dorsey. Linebacker Jesus Jiminez had two sacks. About the only disappointment for the Dons were 15 penalties for 139 yards.

It was a disastrous week for Fremont (7-2, 3-2). Seven days ago, the Pathfinders were unbeaten and a top contender for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. But on Thursday, they had to forfeit a victory over Crenshaw because of an ineligible player. And Friday’s defeat leaves them in third place.
