Chasing the Pick Six

Share

Since only 55 horses were entered Sunday morning for today’s card at Hollywood Park, something was needed to spice the program.

The track got its wish when nobody was able to isolate all the winners in Sunday’s pick six, meaning there is a carry-over of $128,253 for this afternoon.

This is the second pick six carry-over in the first five days of the meet and there was only one winning ticket on Saturday.

Half of the races in today’s pick six are for maidens and the shortest price of the card is probably in the eighth and final. Battler, who has lost six times against better stock, will be a solid favorite to break his maiden as he drops into a $40,000 claimer for trainer Pat Gallagher.

A gelded son of Dehere, Battler is one of three contenders jockey Chris McCarron will be riding in pick six races.

In the fifth, he will be aboard Romantic Won, a 3-year-old filly trained by Ron Ellis, then, in the seventh, a 12-furlong marathon on turf, he will be on Continental Red for trainer Ian Jory.

McCarron’s other mount today is Peanut Butter Man, a 16-time loser who will be a longshot in the fourth, a 11/16-mile turf race for older maidens.

Race of the day: The seventh is the least predictable race on the card. Last Parade looks like the only one of the seven entries who can be thrown out. Loving won in his U.S. debut over the local turf, Devon Deputy has won twice at the 12-furlong distance, Continental Red has been consistent, Flo The Blo is a threat to lead all the way, Come Back Ronnie won his only other start in Inglewood about a year ago and Raypour is facing lesser.

Who’s hot: Arromanches. An 8-year-old gelding, he won his eighth consecutive race Sunday at Aqueduct and has now won 26 of 67 in his career.

Who’s not: Multiple Meetings. Since breaking her maiden on Feb. 14, the General Meeting filly has not finished better than fifth in five subsequent starts and has been beaten by a total of 1073/4 lengths. She is scheduled to run in today’s third after being claimed for $16,000 by Barry Abrams last month.

Exotically speaking: A trifecta in the fifth keying Castlebright on top to Romantic Won, Jeremy’s Quest and Because Of You in the two hole and all in the three spot.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 4/10. Money: Previous day/meet total: $23/$51.60. Total money bet: $86.
