Cal State Northridge 101, Dominican 47--Senior guard Markus Carr scored a game-high 29 points and set a Big West record with 11 steals for the Matadors (1-1) in front of 1,164 at Northridge.
The Matadors’ pressure defense forced 34 turnovers.
“It’s in-your-face pressure the whole game,” Carr said. “You don’t have time to relax.”
Coming off an 85-75 season-opening home loss to Nevada, the
Matadors held Dominican (4-1), an NAIA school, scoreless for the first 5:47 and built a 21-1 lead.
Gene Myvett’s jumper enabled Northridge to break 100 points for the first time since Jan. 31 against Cal State Sacramento.
