Misdemeanor Charges Filed in 14,500-Acre Fire
Two California teenagers have been charged with misdemeanors resulting from an illegal campfire that exploded into the 14,500-acre Martis fire on the California-Nevada line in June.
The Nevada County district attorney’s office charged Morgan Cooper of Truckee and Christopher Austin of Hirschdale, both 18, with maintaining a campfire without a permit and leaving the fire unattended. The two face a Dec. 17 court appearance.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Fred T. Holmes said each count carries up to six months in jail and fines of up to $2,700, the Sierra Sun reported.
