Williams Foils Ex-Teammates

Jason Williams scored eight of his 19 points in the final 2:17 to rally the Memphis Grizzlies to a 98-94 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Monday night at Memphis, Tenn.

Williams, traded to Memphis by Sacramento in the off-season, and Rodney Buford, who scored 21 points, helped lead the Grizzlies to their second victory in 13 games.

Peja Stojakovic scored 21 points, and Mike Bibby, traded from the Grizzlies for Williams, had 20.

Williams spent the final minutes of Monday’s game gesturing to the Kings’ bench as he rallied the Grizzlies from five points down with 3:51 remaining. After the final buzzer, several of Williams’ former teammates embraced him near midcourt.

New York 88, Atlanta 83--Latrell Sprewell tied his season high with 29 points, including scoring the Knicks’ final five, and Marcus Camby returned to their lineup in a victory over the Hawks at New York.

The Knicks played strong defense down the stretch, holding Atlanta to only 28 points in the second half and one field goal over the final six minutes.

After Sprewell made one of two free throws to give New York an 86-83 lead with 12 seconds left, Jason Terry missed a three-pointer with six seconds left. The Knicks grabbed the rebound, and Sprewell made two free throws to complete the scoring.

Camby, who missed the first 14 games because of a foot injury, made nine of 13 shots and had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Detroit 105, Orlando 100--Clifford Robinson had 30 points and 10 rebounds, and Chucky Atkins’ three-pointer with 50 seconds left put the Pistons ahead for good at Orlando, Fla.

Corliss Williamson scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter for Detroit (9-4). Orlando’s Grant Hill, in his first game against his old team, had 14 points and eight rebounds.

Phoenix 111, Utah 104--Stephon Marbury scored 33 points and sparked an overtime run that led the Suns past the struggling Jazz at Salt Lake City. Marbury and Rodney Rogers made three-pointers in a 9-1 burst in the first 3:43 of overtime.
