3-12 Workweek: Police Officers Are People Too

Share

As an LAPD officer, I have some questions for people who do not approve of the compressed work schedule.

Why are you concerned about how a police officer will perform after 12 hours of work? Why aren’t you concerned that firefighters and paramedics work 24-hour shifts and have people’s lives in their hands? Why aren’t you concerned about doctors or nurses working a 24-hour shift in the emergency room? Why are you concerned about where I live? Why aren’t you concerned about where the firemen who serve the city live or where the doctors or nurses who treat them live?

I would not consider working three days a week a part-time job. I have two kids to take care of and I consider that a full-time job also. I am looking forward to spending four full days with them if this schedule is approved. Getting another “paid” job is the last thing on my mind. Maybe people who have these questions should ask their employers if they could work a compressed schedule.
