Charles R. Redmond, 75; Longtime Executive With Times Mirror Co.

Charles R. Redmond, a retired executive vice president of the Times Mirror Co. and former vice chairman and chief financial officer of the Board of Governors of the Los Angeles Music Center, died of cancer Sunday at his home in La Canada. He was 75.

Redmond, who joined Times Mirror in 1964 as corporate director of personnel, retired in 1992 as executive vice president of the company and a member of its management committee. He was president and chief executive of the Times Mirror Foundation until 1995 and chairman of the Pfaffinger Foundation, which assists needy former Times Mirror employees and retirees, until 1997.

Redmond also served as vice chairman of the board of trustees of Loyola Marymount University and chairman of its finance committee. He served on numerous boards, including the Salvation Army and the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Born in New Brunswick, N.J., he graduated with honors from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from USC and a law degree from Loyola Marymount University.
